Even though its late October as I write this, there is still a lot of good foraging happening. In the past 2 weeks I've either harvested or seen the following plants. Walnuts, Hazelnuts, Chinkapins, Persimmons, Chickweed, Purple Dead Nettle, Bittercress, Stinging Nettle, Garlic Mustard, Lions Mane and Chicken of the Woods mushrooms, Mockernut and Pignut Hickories, Acorns, Cattails, Spice Bush fruit, Hackberry fruit, Rose Hips, Perilla, Lady's Thumb and I'm sure there are some others. A lot of these can be dried for winter use. There is not enough quanity of these plants to feed the masses but luckily there are few foragers.
My last scheduled class for '25 is the Wilderness Survival workshop on November 15. www.stevepullinger.com/wilderness-survival-workshop.html I am available for private foraging, survival or advanced friction fire workshops over the winter. Contact me if interested. These can be at your location or mine. [email protected] My winter mission is to be a competent flintknapper. Not looking for art but want to be able to make functional points and knives.
